GREEN ARMY ROUND TWO OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS

Applications are now open for community-led Green Army projects that support practical, grassroots environment and heritage conservation activities across Gippsland.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the Australian Government was providing additional opportunities in the 2014/15 financial year for community organisations, environment groups and local councils to apply for Green Army projects in their region.

“The Green Army gives our local Landcare and conservation groups a real boost by offering extra muscle to finish meaningful environmental projects, while also giving young people access to skills-based training,” Mr Chester said.

FEDERAL BUDGET TO PROVIDE A BOOST TO GIPPSLAND

A roads package of $40 million, including a doubling of Federal Government funding to local councils, will improve safety and boost the local economy, according to The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.

Combined with tax cuts and incentives for small businesses to invest in new equipment, Mr Chester said tonight’s Federal Budget would encourage jobs growth in the region.

Mr Chester said the childcare and jobs packages included in the Budget would build confidence among Gippsland families, businesses and farmers regarding future opportunities.

NO JAB MEANS NO PLAY AND NO PAY

Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed Federal Government moves to encourage childhood vaccination by linking welfare payments.

From January 1, 2016, child care and family payments will be denied to parents who don’t vaccinate their children.   While exemptions on legitimate medical or religious grounds will continue, ‘conscientious objection’ will be removed as an exemption category.

Mr Chester said the new policy reinforced the importance of immunisation and protecting public health.
