Federal Member for Gippsland Darren CHESTER is encouraging people across Gippsland to vote for their favourite fish and chip shop in the 2017 Australian Fish and Chips Awards.
Mr CHESTER said Gippsland was well known for its high quality seafood – and the rest of Australia needed to know the region was also home to the nation’s best fish and chips.
“If you ask anyone from Gippsland where they love to get their fish and chips, they won’t hesitate to tell you which shop they think is the best,” Mr CHESTER said.
“For me, a shop’s proximity to the coast is always a pretty good indicator of the quality of their food.
“Gippsland is home to some of Australia’s best seafood, so the people of Gippsland need to let the rest of Australia know that the best fish and chips can also be found here."
“If you love your local fish and chip shop, you should vote for it in the Australian Fish and Chips Awards.”
Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources Anne Ruston launched the awards in Canberra. Winners will be selected in two categories, People’s Choice and The National Fish and Chips Awards.
“Australia produces some of the best seafood in the world. There’s so much variety. It’s fresh, it’s local and it’s sustainable, sourced from the best-managed fisheries on the planet,” Senator Ruston said.
“The seafood industry is worth $2.7 billion to the national economy, and is a major economic contributor in many regional communities. “It is important to recognise the success stories in our seafood industry and the hard work of our fishers who bring food to our table.”
All fish and chips will be rated against five criteria: taste, service, choice, information and labelling. The national winner will be announced in September at the National Seafood Industry Awards in Sydney. To vote, visit www.fishandchipsawards.com.au.
