Federal Member for Gippsland Darren CHESTER today officially opened Radial Timber Australia’s new sawmill at Yarram.
The new $4.5 million commercial radial sawmill is the first of its kind in the world and promises to boost productivity and local jobs.
“Gippsland has a rich and proud history as a timber producing region. Investments like this will lead to a great future as we make the best possible use of our timber resource.” Mr Chester said.
“It’s a good example of what can be achieved when governments work in partnership with industry."
“This new mill has generated a number of local jobs during the 12-month construction phase and also a number of on-going positions, and will support Radial Timber’s move towards producing higher quality timber products."
“The expansion will triple the company’s current level of production."
“This is positive news for Gippsland’s timber industry, which is enduring particularly challenging times and we fight to save 260 jobs at Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH) in Heyfield.”
