East Gippsland Rail Trail will be further upgraded with funding from the final round of the black summer bushfires Local Economic Recovery Program.

Local MP Darren Chester said $1.3 million of funding would complement upgrades works already completed and underway on the trail.

“The East Gippsland Rail Trail has been transformed over the last couple of years with an improved trail surface and culvert works, major drainage upgrades, erosion control, bridge upgrades and the installation of new drink stations,” Mr Chester said.

“The trail from Bairnsdale to Orbost attracts visitors to our region and these improvements will attract even more cyclists, runners and walkers and boost the visitor economy.

“Well done the volunteer committee and its supporters over the years for advocating for this important project and the transformation that has taken place.”

The Local Economic Recovery Program is a joint Federal-State government initiative announced after the Black Summer bushfires.
