Rules Road at Toorloo Arm will receive $192,000 to boost safety for all road users.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has announced the road was one of four in East Gippsland to receive a funding under the Black Spot Program.

“Gippsland will receive $2.3 million to improve safety for all road users. Roads in the east, including Rules Road at Toorloo Arm, will share almost $1 million,” said Mr Chester.

“Rules Road between the Princes Highway and Lens Road is a known black spot for traffic accidents with a history of crashes.

“To help reduce the risk of accidents, the delineation and signage will be upgraded, the road’s shoulders will be sealed and the speed limit will be reduced.

“We know that more than 60 per cent of road deaths and a significant proportion of serious injuries occur on roads beyond the city’s outskirts.

“That’s why around half of Black Spot funds in Victoria and most other states are reserved for projects in regional and rural areas.”

Other roads in East Gippsland to receive funding under the Black Spot Program are:

  • Dawson and Wallace Streets, Bairnsdale – $180,000 – modify roundabout and improve lighting;
  • Pearson and Grant Streets, Bairnsdale – $467,000 – install roundabout; and
  • Romawi Road North at Peecks Road, Forge Creek – $160,000 – install a guard fence, upgrade delineation and reduce speed limit.
