Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says he will work with local councils to secure additional funding for tourism infrastructure following the announcement of a new $200 million fund.

The Federal Government has announced a new round of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) with a focus on regional tourism.

“There will be $200 million in next week’s budget with $100 million set aside for tourism-related infrastructure,” Mr Chester said.

“We need to keep investing in our tourism product to build the visitor economy and create jobs in East Gippsland.

“The East Gippsland Shire Council has done some excellent work rebuilding burnt infrastructure like the coastal walk in Mallacoota and there’s plenty of other projects we can target in the Snowy River region for a funding program like this one.”
