Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has announced $20,000 in funding to help protect and enhance a popular walking track at Lakes Entrance.

The Entrance Walk starts near the pedestrian bridge at Main Beach and continues 2.4 kilometres towards the entrance.

Mr Chester said the Federal Government would provide half of the money needed for the $40,000 project.

“This project is supported by a number of community groups, whose members will take part in working bees to complete the work required,” Mr Chester said.

“The trail passes historic homes and crosses wetlands and it gives visitors a wonderful look at our local flora and fauna.

“When the work is finished, the walk will be a great option for people wanting to be active and get closer to nature.”

The project aims to conserve native wildlife, protect and restore the wetlands and coastal bushland, and reduce the impact of weeds.
