The Federal Government will contribute $250,000 to the redevelopment of the pavilion at Briagolong Recreation Reserve.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester made the funding announcement today at the recreation reserve.

Mr Chester secured the funding through the Community Sport Infrastructure Grants program.

Mr Chester said the money would be used to upgrade the changerooms for players and umpires, renovate the kitchen, create a new social room and a new multi-purpose community meeting space, redevelop the public toilets and refurbish the building.

“The recreation reserve is a hub of community activity in Briagolong,” Mr Chester said. “It’s used regularly by people involved in a number of different sports, including pony club, tennis, netball, cricket and football,” Mr Chester said.

“Like many communities across Gippsland, Briagolong is suffering during this drought.

“The Federal Government has a range of initiatives to help farming families and farming communities.

“This funding to upgrade the pavilion will enhance a community asset that is already well-used. I hope the upgrade will also enable the building to be used in new ways by the community.”

The total cost of the pavilion upgrade project is $732,000. It’s also been supported by Wellington Shire Council, which has contributed $342,000, the Victorian Government ($100,000), and the recreation reserve’s committee of management ($40,000).
