Projects worth $3.59 million to revitalise Rosedale are now underway.

The rejuvenated streetscape along the Prince Street shopping strip is starting to take shape as part of the $1.5 million Rosedale Revitalisation project.

And traffic is being safely directed around the Rosedale Hotel after the beginning of work on the $2.09 million project to redesign and realign the roundabout.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the investment in Rosedale would help to boost the local economy and reinvigorate the township.

“It is terrific to see this construction activity in Rosedale. At the moment, there may be some inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists. When the work is done, though, Rosedale will be a more attractive place for both locals and visitors,” Mr Chester said.

“Rosedale’s businesses rely on the passing traffic, so we need to give travellers every reason to stop in Rosedale.

“The streetscape works, undertaken by Fowlers Asphalting in Trafalgar, are due to be finished in July. Work on the roundabout is scheduled for completion mid-year and the associated landscaping should be done by the end of the year. By that time, Rosedale will look more attractive and inviting than ever before.”

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Carolyn Crossley said the revitalisation project included improvements at Willow Park to boost the town’s reputation as a RV-friendly town.

“The improvements will include new toilets, picnic shelter and plantings,” Cr Crossley said.

“Importantly, we will also strengthen the connection between the park and town by upgrading the shared pathway and installing signage.

“The plan also includes a proposal to beautify the western entrance to Rosedale. We hope to remove the street trees between Hood Street west to the Coach Lamp Motel and replaced with them with an leafy avenue that will, over time, create a welcoming approach to town.”

The Federal Government has allocated $1 million to the Rosedale Revitalisation Project, with Wellington Shire Council contributing $500,000.

The cost of the $2.09 million roundabout project has been shared between the Federal Government, through the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program, and the Victorian Government.
