There’s a new team at the Cowwarr Cricket Club Hotel – and they’re breathing new life into the classic pub.
At the helm is licensee Jarrod Michael, who’s helping fellow veterans adjust to life after military service by providing meaningful work.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester, who’s also the Minister for Defence Personnel, stopped by the pub to meet Jarrod and some of the veterans Jarrod has helped.
“With support from his family, friends and the RSL community, Jarrod has renovated the Cowwarr pub, which dates back to 1880, and opened it again for business,” Mr Chester said.
“Importantly, Jarrod is using the pub as a way of helping ex-service personnel by providing them with a workplace where they are supported and understood by those they work with.
“The bar and two dining rooms have been renovated and there’s a great beer garden area out the back. Jarrod and his team have also been working on upgrading the upstairs accommodation.
“The pub is a great asset for Cowwarr and, following the improvements that have been made, I am sure it will become a popular place for people to come for lunch or dinner, or stay for a night or two as they enjoy the popular Gippsland Plains Rail Trail.”
