There was one topic at the forefront of most people’s minds when Federal MP Darren Chester visited Heyfield Primary School this week.

Mr Chester was invited to the school’s Monday morning assembly to present achievement certificates to the school’s student leadership team.

With the school community’s high level of awareness of the Coronavirus and how it can be spread, Mr Chester took a novel approach to congratulating each of the students.

Instead of shaking their hands as he presented their certificates, Mr Chester and the students chose to do a gentle foot tap or an elbow bump, or both.

The new approach generated lots of smiles and a few laughs among the students, teachers, parents and Mr Chester.
