The work of the Boolarra South Landcare Group in rehabilitating The Old Mill site in Boolarra has been praised in Federal Parliament by The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.

The group has constructed walking tracks by hand, planted over 1500 trees using over 30 native species and developed an arboretum and rotunda area at the site.

The site has already become popular with a number of local walkers now using the tracks and amenities.

Mr Chester recently visited the site to inspect the work that has been carried out by Boolarra South Landcare Group volunteers.

He told Parliament that the rehabilitation of the site has been a huge success.

“I would like to congratulate the Boolarra South Landcare Group for the extraordinary work that they have been doing in the rehabilitation of The Old Mill Site at Boolarra,” Mr Chester told Parliament.

“The Boolarra community was badly affected by the bushfires in 2009 and it is a great effort by the Landcare volunteers to work together on this.

“It will be a great asset for the Boolarra district community for many years to come.”
