Gippslanders are being encouraged to give blood ahead of the critical summer holiday season.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has rolled up his sleeve and made a plasma donation at the Australian Red Cross Traralgon Donor Centre.
Mr Chester said the holiday period was traditionally a busy time for trauma hospitals.
Anyone from 16 to 70 years of age who weight 50kg or more and is fit and healthy can give blood.
“Every blood donation can help save three lives,” Mr Chester said.
“Some people need blood to get through a serious illness or injury, while others have medical conditions which require regular blood products to stay alive or be healthy.
“I encourage all Gippslanders who are able to give blood to take up the opportunity and help boost supplies ahead of the critical summer season.”
The Traralgon donor centre is at 20 Seymour Street Traralgon. Appointments are recommended. Phone number is 13 14 95
There is also a Gippsland mobile donor centre.
Details of its location and operating times can be found at www.donateblood.com.au/blood-donor-centre/bairnsdale-mobile-donor-centre or by phoning 13 14 95.
