Four agricultural and pastoral societies in Gippsland have received an additional boost as part of the of Federal Government’s Supporting Agricultural Shows and Field Days program.
Local MP Darren Chester said that the supplementary grants would support local agricultural shows and field days as they begin to host events again.
“Just over $30,000 will be shared by four agricultural societies in Gippsland to support running costs and requirements of local events,” Mr Chester said.
“It is fantastic to see community agricultural shows and fields days happening again throughout Gippsland after a year of no events and little to no income for the societies.
“This funding will help support volunteers running and organising events and ensure the community is safe when attending.”
The groups receiving supplementary funding include:
- Omeo and District Agricultural & Pastoral Society Inc – $1,500
- Sale & District Agricultural Society Inc – $23,210
- The Maffra & District Agricultural Pastoral and Horticultural Society Inc – $2,778
- Yarram Agricultural Society Inc – $3,412
Mr Chester said agricultural shows help boost the economy and showcase the region.
“Gippsland is a rich agricultural community and shows provide an opportunity to exhibit our local produce and innovation to not only locals but visitors to the region,” Mr Chester said.
“It is a testament to the local agricultural sector and the volunteers that after such a difficult 12 months we are able to start hosting these events again.”
The Supporting Agricultural Shows and Field Days Program reimburses eligible costs for shows and field days which had to cancel because of COVID-19.
