BARNABY JOYCE PRAISES LOCAL COMMUNITY INITIATIVE

October 30, 2010

Queensland Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce congratulated Bairnsdale and district residents for taking the initiative and developing plans to build an All Abilities Playground during today’s speech at the Bairnsdale RSL.

Senator Joyce was guest speaker at a function organised by local MP Darren Chester and All Abilities Playground Committee Member Tim Bull.

“I’m always impressed when a local community decides on a project it wants to pursue and then works with all levels of government to achieve the desired outcome,” Senator Joyce said.

The breakfast function attracted more than 60 guests with funds raised being donated to the playground committee.

“This is an exciting project because it will not only provide opportunities for children with special needs, it will also feature equipment that will be enjoyed by all children,” Mr Bull said.

“Our aim is to build the playground by 2011 but that will depend on the financial support we receive.”

Senator Joyce also met with local timber company representatives in his role as the Shadow Minister for Regional Development.

“It was great to have Barnaby in town to give him a first hand understanding of the issues facing our community and I’m looking forward to working with him to keep the pressure on the Gillard Government to deliver a fair share of infrastructure funding for our region,” Mr Chester said.
