Gippslanders are being urged to attend their local Anzac Day service and commemorate all Australians who have served in the defence force by Federal MP Darren Chester.
Mr Chester, who is also a former Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, says Anzac Day is much more than a public holiday and is an opportunity to give thanks to the men and women who continue to serve us today.
“Anzac Day is not about glorifying war or conflict, quite the opposite,” Mr Chester said.
“It’s our chance to pay our respects to the 102,000 people who have been killed wearing our nation’s uniform and protecting the freedoms we all enjoy today.
“We live in challenging geopolitical times, and our national security is a critical issue. On Anzac Day, we must remember all those who have served in the past, but also pledge to support the current members of the Australian Defence Force who keep us safe.
“On Anzac Day, we have the opportunity to gather as a region and demonstrate our respect to all who have served, and continue to serve in 2025.”
