Drought affected farmers across Gippsland can now apply for an additional $3000 through the Federal Government’s extension of the Drought Community Support Initiative.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the initiative would help farming families with small household bills before Christmas.

“Farmers can now apply for a payment of up to $3000 through the Salvation Army for any urgent bills and expenses they may have,” Mr Chester said.

“This payment will take a little stress off farming families who are doing it tough and help to boost our local businesses which are also experiencing financial hardship.”

Mr Chester said farming families needed to apply through the Salvation Army either by calling 1300 551 030 or visiting https://www.salvationarmy.org.au/need-help/disaster-relief-and-support/drought-community-support-initiative/ and completing the application process.

“The Salvos will work together with farmers to ensure this money hits the ground quickly and supports those most in need,” Mr Chester said.

“With Christmas fast approaching, this extra payment will help a little to ease the financial burden many of our farming families are facing.”
