Former contestants of The Block as well as the Today Show have visited Mallacoota to help the community recover from the recent bushfires.
The group came to Mallacoota to help the locals with the recovery process and helped rebuild Mallacoota P-12’s chicken coop, picnic tables at Betka Beach and the community BBQ pavilion.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester welcomed the group and thanked them for their support.
“Having the ‘Blockheads’ in town has been a real morale booster for the community,” Mr Chester said.
“Matt, El’ise, Will, Spence and Kerry have given their time to rebuild important community assets and it has meant a lot to the town.”
Mr Chester said the visit from the Today Show and the Block contestants brought more national exposure to Mallacoota and East Gippsland.
“The hidden gem that is Mallacoota has been given a national platform seen by thousands of Australians watching the Today Show, not to mention the social media coverage the blockheads gave us,” Mr Chester said.
“It truly is a beautiful part of the world we need to get the word out to people to come back and visit, spend your money and support us.
“Thanks again to the team from the Block and the Today Show, your support for East Gippsland will be remembered.”
