Plans to build a walking track from the footbridge to Eastern Beach, which joins the existing footpath along the Lakes Entrance Esplanade, are gaining momentum.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said many locals, and regular visitors to Lakes Entrance, had raised with him their support for a continuous exercise and walking track with pram and wheelchair access close to the main tourist precinct.

Mr Chester said the community was keen to see new tourism infrastructure to encourage visitors to stay longer in Lakes Entrance.

“I have raised this project directly with shire representatives, passing on the feedback I am receiving, that locals and visitors to the region want to see new tourism infrastructure,” Mr Chester said.

“There are a range of state and federal government funding streams for regional development projects, which require local contributions and local government management of the project.”
