STATEMENT OF SUPPORT: CARTER HOLT HARVEY WOKERS
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has released the following statement after an announcement by Carter Holt Harvey that it may close its Morwell mill.
“I am deeply concerned to learn of the uncertainty around the future of the Carter Holt Harvey mill and the impact on local workers and their families,” Mr Chester said.
“The Latrobe Valley is experiencing a particularly difficult period with major job losses and this announcement will be devastating to workers.
“As a community we need to keep working together and all levels of government need to put aside any political differences to invest in projects that will create jobs and provide confidence in the future.
“The Federal Government has departmental staff on standby to provide employment assistance for displaced workers if required.”
