Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has reminded local motorists to allow extra travel time and be alert to changed road conditions on the Princes Highway between Traralgon and Sale.

A number of traffic changes have been implemented along the highway since Christmas, including a new section recently opened near Nambrok Rd, east of Rosedale. The Stammers to Minniedale Road section is also due to open soon near Traralgon.

Mr Chester said travel times between Traralgon and Sale had increased by 10-15 minutes and he encouraged all drivers to remain patient.

“All motorists – particularly people who are familiar with the highway but have not driven the section recently – may be caught out by the changed traffic conditions around Rosedale and Traralgon,” Mr Chester said.

“You will need to allow extra time for your journey while the reduced speed limits are in place.

“It is important that everyone observes speed limits around the worksites and pay close attention to lane markings on the new sections of road for the safety of workers and all road users.”

Mr Chester said the Princes Highway duplication works would be ongoing for the next two years.

“The inconvenience in coming months will be worth it when we have a safer and more efficient highway route in the future.”

A further $85 million was committed to the Princes Highway duplication last November, on top of the $175 million already committed.

The Federal Government is funding 80 per cent of the project, with 20 per cent coming from the Victorian Government.
