CHESTER: CHOOSE LOCAL PRODUCE THIS CHRISTMAS

Dec 17, 2025 | Latest News

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester is encouraging Gippslanders to support local growers and family-owned businesses this Christmas, highlighting Traralgon-based business Get Fresh Gippsland as a great example of local produce being grown, packed and sold in the region.

Get Fresh Gippsland is a family-owned business run by Kel Poole, alongside his son Jayden and daughter-in-law Bonnie, continuing a proud family tradition of potato growing in the Thorpdale region.

“Get Fresh Gippsland is a fantastic example of locals supporting locals,” Mr Chester said.

“Kel and his family are growing high-quality produce and providing it directly to the community, which means fresher food for locals and stronger support for our regional economy.”

The self-serve farm shop, located at 9 Salisbury Crescent in Traralgon, showcases fresh, locally grown vegetables and is open Saturdays from 9am to 3pm, with pre-ordered vegetable pickups also available on Wednesdays.

Alongside produce grown on the Poole family farm, the shop stocks a range of locally made products, including fresh floral posies from Moonrise Growers, jams, sauces, honey and peanut butter from Precious Pastures, as well as Get Fresh Gippsland’s own seasoning blends.

Mr Chester said the business was a true family effort, with three generations involved.

“At any given time, you’ll see multiple generations of Gippslanders helping run the business, including Kel’s grandchildren,” he said.

“With Christmas fast approaching, there’s no better time to support a small, local family business.

“By choosing Gippsland-grown produce, you’re enjoying some of the best food in the world while backing the people who grow it and helping keep our regional economy strong.”
