Local MP Darren Chester is well known for his love of Gippsland and as a champion of local businesses, produce and products.
So, it wouldn’t surprise many people that Mr Chester recently put his money where his mouth is. Or, perhaps more accurately, his mouth where his heart is.
Mr Chester bought a box of special-order biscuits stamped with his much-loved hashtag #lovegippsland and his Shop Local, Support Local slogan.
“Now, more than ever, it is important we support local businesses and their efforts to find new ways to serve their customers while pandemic restrictions are in force,” Mr Chester said.
“By shopping locally, whether in person or online, and choosing local service providers, you are supporting local jobs.
“I encourage everyone to do what they can to help local businesses to get through this tough period and help the local economy emerge from the lockdown in the best shape possible.”
The biscuits were made by Katya Askew of Katya’s Kookies in Traralgon. Personalised sugar cookies can be ordered by direct messaging katyaskookies_ on Instagram.
Mr Chester said Gippsland had a well-deserved reputation as a destination for foodies and as a supplier of top-quality produce.
“We are lucky to live in a region that’s home to some of Australia’s highest quality fresh food and has inspired many others to become part of the food and hospitality industry,” Mr Chester said.
