CHESTER MEETS NEW BRHS CEO

Oct 1, 2025 | Latest News

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has met with Peter Abraham, the newly appointed CEO of Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (BRHS), and toured the hospital to discuss current challenges and future opportunities for local healthcare.

Mr Chester said regional health services faced unique pressures, but praised the leadership team at BRHS for already implementing practical initiatives to improve patient care.

“Even relatively small improvements can make a big difference,” Mr Chester said.

“For example, providing care chairs for patients awaiting discharge allows nursing staff to continue monitoring them while also freeing up vital emergency department beds.

“This simple change is helping to improve patient flow and overall outcomes.”

Mr Abraham brings extensive experience from managing health services across Victoria and beyond, and has expressed a strong commitment to working with local allied health providers to tailor services to the needs of the East Gippsland community.

“Peter and his team are clearly focused on delivering the best outcomes possible for patients and families in our region,” Mr Chester said.

“I look forward to working alongside BRHS to ensure the people of East Gippsland have access to the quality health care they deserve.”
