Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has met with representatives from One Gippsland in Canberra, highlighting the importance of regional advocacy as work begins ahead of the 2026 Federal Budget.
“Engaging directly with regional leaders is incredibly important, particularly in the lead-up to the Federal Budget,” Mr Chester said.
“It provides a strong platform for Gippsland’s industry and community representatives to advocate for the investment we need to grow our economy, strengthen our communities and improve liveability.”
Mr Chester said One Gippsland continue to play a vital role as the region’s peak advocacy body.
“One Gippsland brings together government, business and community voices to ensure our region speaks with a united and coordinated voice,” he said.
Mr Chester met with Cr Nathan Hersey (South Gippsland Shire Mayor and Chair of One Gippsland), Allison Jones (South Gippsland Shire Council CEO), Simon Johnson (Food & Fibre Gippsland CEO), and Cr Cindy Madeley (Wellington Shire Council Mayor), with discussions focused on One Gippsland’s key priorities including freight, tourism, skills and education, disaster resilience and energy.
“These are critical areas that will improve connectivity, support local jobs and help build a stronger future for Gippsland,” Mr Chester said.
Mr Chester said it was essential that regional voices were included in national decision-making.
“I will continue to advocate strongly to ensure Gippsland gets its fair share of investment and the support our communities deserve,” he said.
