Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has visited St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School in Traralgon to speak with Year 9 students about civics, democracy and the role of Federal Parliament.
Mr Chester said the visit was a valuable opportunity to discuss how Australia’s democratic system works and encourage students to take an interest in the issues affecting their community.
“It was great to visit St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School and speak with Year 9 students about civics, democracy and the role of our Federal Parliament,” Mr Chester said.
“We discussed how laws are made, the responsibilities of elected representatives and the different ways young people can have their voices heard on the issues that matter to them.”
Mr Chester said the students asked thoughtful questions and showed a genuine interest in how decisions made in Canberra can affect families, schools and local communities.
“Our democracy is strongest when people are informed, involved and prepared to contribute to the debate,” Mr Chester said.
“Young Gippslanders have an important role to play in shaping the future of our region, and it is always encouraging to see students asking questions and engaging with the democratic process.”
