Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has thanked local motorists for their patience as the redevelopment of the Lakes Entrance Esplanade continues to disrupt traffic flows.
Mr Chester said the multi-million dollar transformation would be worth the wait.
“The work has been staged by Regional Roads Victoria over several years to keep the highway operating as best as possible while the upgrades are completed,” Mr Chester said.
“The improvements to pedestrian safety, parking and the aesthetics of the Esplanade will make it a more functional road and also encourage more visitors to stop and explore our region.
“The funding for the work has been provided by the Federal and State governments as part of a $50 million deal which has already seen new overtaking lanes, rest areas and shoulders installed between Lakes Entrance and the New South Wales border.”
The latest project in Lakes Entrance involves new pedestrian lights to be completed before the busy holiday season.
