Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed the first Australian Defence Force Personnel on the ground in Gippsland to assist with recovery works.
Mr Chester was in Gormandale to greet Colonel John Molnar and his crew who will be working on debris and tree removal, distributing generators to areas where power is still a problem and providing support to affected families.
Mr Chester said a contingent of Australian Defence Force personnel were deployed to the Newborough Army Reserve depot to help out with flood and storm recovery.
“Our local crews have done a great job already but there’s a lot of work to be done, and extra boots on the ground will make a difference,” Mr Chester said.
“The crew received a briefing from Traralgon’s Daniel Barr who works at DELWP in Yarram.
“Colonoel Molnar is a Gippslander, growing up in Traralgon and playing football for the North Gippsland Football League.
“It’s great to have Gippslanders coming back to our region to assist in the recovery efforts.
“Thanks everyone for your hard work to help people in the storm and flood affected areas.”
