Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed the establishment of Generous Gippsland, a new community fund launched by the Gippsland Community Foundation to support community-led projects and create lasting local change.
Mr Chester said the initiative, which is all about backing community-led projects and creating lasting local change, would help ensure resources raised in Gippsland remain in the region and are guided by local priorities.
“Generous Gippsland is a fantastic example of Gippslanders supporting Gippslanders,” Mr Chester said.
“This new community fund provides a practical and sustainable way to invest in the projects and initiatives that matter most to local people, ensuring the benefits stay within our communities for generations to come.”
The Generous Gippsland fund has been designed to deliver both immediate and long-term impact, with contributions supporting annual community grants while also building a permanent funding pool for the future.
Mr Chester commended the Gippsland Community Foundation for its leadership in creating a locally governed philanthropic model that empowers communities to lead their own change.
“The Gippsland Community Foundation has been quietly making a difference across our region for several years, and Generous Gippsland builds on that strong foundation,” he said.
“By keeping funds local and ensuring decisions are guided by community voices, this initiative will help strengthen Gippsland’s resilience and support projects that deliver real and lasting benefits.”
In support of the initiative, Mr Chester announced his personal contribution to the fund.
“Obviously, the cost of living pressures are impacting many people at the moment but if you in a position to help, every donation contributes to a substantial fund for use across our region,” he said
“Every contribution, large or small, helps empower local communities and ensures Gippsland continues to thrive.
“Generous Gippsland offers a meaningful way for people to give back to the region they call home.
“This is about building a legacy of generosity and ensuring that Gippsland communities have the resources they need to shape their own future.”
