Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed a delegation of AUSVEG board members to Canberra to advocate on behalf of the multi-billion dollar industry.
Led by East Gippsland-based chairman Bill Bulmer, the AUSVEG representatives from across Australia visited Federal Parliament to highlight key issues facing growers.
“We have a world-class and critically important vegetable and potato growing industry which is strongly represented by AUSVEG at the highest levels,” Mr Chester said.
“Issues around the power imbalance between growers and the major supermarkets, reliable water supplies, and having access to a skilled workforce to get crops to market, requires good government policies.
“We need to keep working together to support the industry and encourage Australians to eat more vegetables which is obviously good for their health and also good for the regional producers.
“I welcomed the opportunity to meet with chairman Bill Bulmer and his team and encouraged them to keep up their excellent work to represent the interests of primary producers.”
