Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester participated in a different kind of Question Time this week with Grade 5 and 6 students at St Michael’s Primary School Heyfield welcoming the local MP to discuss his work in the community.
Mr Chester said he was impressed with the students’ depth of knowledge on local, state and federal issues.
“Many of the students had a deep understanding of issues, well beyond their years, and they were keen to advocate for their community. They raised local issues, scrutinised political decisions, and presented logical arguments for their positions in a respectful manner, particularly when it came to local jobs and natural resource management.”
Mr Chester said engaging with the region’s future leaders and sharing insights into life in Federal Parliament was always a pleasure.
“St Michael’s may be harbouring a few budding politicians,” Mr Chester said.
“I was impressed by how much these young Gippslanders care for the region, their community, and the issues that affect them.
“The students were keen to learn more about how to fix problems, and they asked insightful questions about how I am working to support Heyfield and the broader Gippsland community.”
