Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed a community-driven campaign to attract a new general practitioner (GP) to Lakes Entrance, describing it as a positive step to strengthen local healthcare services.

Cunninghame Arm Medical Centre has launched the initiative to recruit an experienced GP who can expand appointment availability for patients and support the training of junior doctors and registrars.

Mr Chester said the campaign highlighted the power of communities working together to address local challenges.

“This is a practical and positive initiative that brings together local businesses, community leaders and health professionals to support an important cause,” Mr Chester said.

“Access to healthcare is absolutely critical in regional communities, and it’s encouraging to see Lakes Entrance taking an innovative approach to solving a problem which faces many of our regional centres.”

Mr Chester said the campaign not only focused on filling an immediate workforce need but also promoted the broader benefits of living and working in the region.

“It showcases everything Lakes Entrance has to offer, a strong sense of community, a great lifestyle by the water and a supportive environment for health professionals and their families,” he said.

Mr Chester encouraged Gippslanders to support the campaign by sharing it within their networks.

“A stronger local health workforce means better outcomes for local families,” he said.

“I encourage everyone to help spread the word about this opportunity and support efforts to secure more healthcare services for the community.”
