Federal MP Darren Chester says he is looking forward to delivering more results for the people of Gippsland after electoral officials declared him the winner of the 2016 federal poll.

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) today issued its traditional Declaration of the Poll for Gippsland, with Mr Chester recording almost 57 per cent of the primary vote and an overall two-party-preferred (2PP) result of 68.5 per cent.

Mr Chester said he was looking forward to getting on with the job of representing all Gippsland residents and delivering a fair share of resources to regional areas.

“I am humbled by the opportunity given to me by local voters to be their representative in the federal parliament,” Mr Chester said.

“I look forward to continuing to advocate on their behalf as a member of Coalition Government and ensuring our region remains the best place to live, work and raise a family.

“This election result could not have been possible without the support of my family, friends and loyal supporters who are committed to ensuring that people living in regional areas continue to have their interests represented in Canberra by The Nationals.”
