Time is running out for not-for-profit groups to register an expression of interest for the Federal Government’s new Stronger Communities Programme.

Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the “#lovegippsland” fund provided matching dollar-for-dollar grants between $5000 and $20,000 for eligible groups. The funding can include in-kind labour.

Mr Chester said local groups had until September 11 to submit an expression of interest with his office.

“Often community groups and clubs struggle to find a funding program to match their needs,” Mr Chester said.

“The purpose of the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Programme is to make grants available to the groups that already have some money or voluntary labour to start a small project, but need extra funding to make it a reality.

“A total of $300,000 will be made available over two years across Gippsland, and I strongly encourage local groups to make the most of this opportunity.”

Small not-for-profit groups are encouraged to register an Expression of Interest by contacting Mr Chester’s office, 1300 131 785, and asking for an information pack.

Expressions of Interest close September 11.

The EoI paperwork requires only basic details of the project, which would then be referred to the independent community consultation committee for consideration.

Projects recommended for grant funding by the independent panel will be assessed against the Programme Guidelines by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development to ensure that approved projects represent value for money.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to read the Stronger Communities Programme, guidelines and the Frequently Asked Questions which are available on the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development’s website.
