More assistance is available to farming families in Gippsland affected by drought.
Affected households can now apply for payments of up to $3,000 through the Country Women’s Association of Victoria Drought Relief Program.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said grants are available to farming families to assist with household expenses such as groceries, school, electricity, rates, telephone and emergency dental and medical bills.
“The grants are designed to help with household needs and expenses for Gippsland families that are still experiencing the financial impacts of drought,” Mr Chester said.
“People that have previously received a drought relief grant for the CWA of Victoria are still able to apply if they’re experiencing drought related financial stress.
“These grants are designed to keep money flowing for communities that are suffering from the impact of drought.
“This is one way to show our farmers that work is still underway to support and help them.”
Grants are available to farming families, farm workers and contractors that are drought affected and reliant on farming as their primary source of income.
Applicants must have bills from 1 July 2020 to now and live in one of the four local government areas of East Gippsland Shire, Wellington Shire, Latrobe City Council or Baw Baw Shire.
The extension of this program is largely funded through the Commonwealth Government’s Drought Community Outreach Program.
