Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has encouraged shoppers across Gippsland to get behind a local initiative to support small businesses.

Mr Chester said the Sale Business and Tourism Association’s 3 Hour Sale Extravaganza was a chance for shoppers to grab a bargain, while supporting jobs in the community by spending money locally.

Local stores will offer discounts over three hours between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, October 15.

There will also be family activities in the mall, live music and the chance to win Shop in Sale vouchers.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and their support is vital for local sporting clubs, schools and community groups,” Mr Chester said.

“Sale is fortunate to have small business owners who have invested in their local community and who provide jobs and services for local residents.

“Passionate shop owners who know their customers also provide a level of service that can’t be found in the major cities.”

Coinciding with the ‘Sale Extravaganza’, Mr Chester is running a social media campaign to support local traders.

Mr Chester will feature 100 local businesses on his Facebook page in the lead up to Christmas, promoting ‘100 Reasons to Shop Locally’.

Mr Chester’s ‘100 Reasons to Shop Locally’ campaign has been running for a month with strong support from business owners across Gippsland.
