PATIENCE REQUIRED ON ROADS THIS EASTER: CHESTER

March 27, 2013

Motorists need to take care and be patient on Gippsland roads over the Easter break according to The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester.

Mr Chester, the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Roads and Regional Transport, said Victoria’s road toll currently sits at 60 for the calendar year, a significant improvement on the average of 71 since 2007.

However, he said there was still room for improvement with too many fatalities on local roads caused by speed and fatigue.

Mr Chester said motorists need to adhere to the speed limits when travelling through the region.

“Easter is always a busy time of year with a high number of people using the holiday period to visit local attractions such as the Gippsland Lakes and High Country,” Mr Chester said.

“Drivers need to keep in mind that with extra traffic on local roads they must be patient and allow additional time for their travel, as well as sticking to the speed limits in place throughout the region.”

Mr Chester said there would be a number of designated rest stops in the region as well as ‘Driver Reviver’ sites set up by Victoria’s State Emergency Service.
