A newly duplicated 2.7 kilometre section of the Princes Highway between Sale-Cowwarr Road and Sale-Heyfield Road near Fulham has opened six months ahead of schedule, improving safety for all drivers.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the early completion of the works was great news in the leadup to Christmas.

“It’s fantastic to see this section of the highway completed early, particularly at this time of year when the roads are busier than usual with traffic accessing areas of Gippsland during the busy holiday period,” Mr Chester said.

“When all current sections are completed, this important and much needed duplication will provide more than 30 kilometres of upgraded highway, improving safety and journey reliability on this route of national significance.

“Completing this section of the Princes Highway will enhance safety for all road users, providing safer access to adjacent properties and vehicles accessing the side roads.

“There is also improved access to the aerodrome, Fulham Correctional Centre and West Sale area.”

Works are continuing on the Nambrok section of the highway, which is due for completion in late 2018, and the Traralgon East section, due for completion in early 2019.

The Australian Government is providing $210 million and the Victorian Government $50 million to upgrade the Princes Highway between Traralgon and Sale.
