Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed funding of almost $500,000 to upgrade Sale Memorial Hall.

Mr Chester said the hall was one of the most iconic in Gippsland and one of the few capable of holding more than 500 people.

“Sale Memorial Hall has hosted such a variety of events over the years from deb balls and school graduations, to high profile rock bands like AC/DC,” Mr Chester said.

“It’s still regularly used for ANZAC Day commemorative services and major community events.

“More recently, Neale Daniher held a fundraiser at the memorial hall for Daniher’s Drive – The Tour for a Cure; and the Big Bloke’s Barbecue is held there annually to raise awareness for men’s health.”

The $486,000 is being provided under the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community Facility Fund.

The funding will be used to upgrade stage change rooms, heating and cooling, internal repainting, internal asbestos removal, and installation of audio-visual equipment.
