Community groups across Gippsland can apply for Federal Government funding for small scale solar and battery projects.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the Solar Communities Grants are currently open and must be lodged by March 28, 2019.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the Government was supporting community organisations to be more energy efficient, reducing emissions and lowering their power bills.

“The Solar Communities Grants provide up to $12,500 for community groups to install rooftop solar photovoltaic, solar hot water and solar-connected battery systems.

“We know that community groups struggle under the weight of high power prices. This funding will help with practical solutions that reduce to reduce energy bills.”

Federal Environment Minister Melissa Price said the government was committed to helping communities to play their role in a sustainable future for the environment.

She said a wide range of organisations would be eligible to apply, including welfare centres, Men’s Sheds, community centres, women’s associations, country fire authorities, community football and netball clubs, Scout or Guide groups and surf lifesaving clubs.

Community organisations with an interest in the Solar Communities Grants are urged to contact Mr Chester’s office on 1300 131 785 to obtain an EOI form.

EOIs must be completed and returned to Mr Chester’s office by March 28, 2019.
