The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has encouraged local sporting groups to apply to a new fund announced this week to upgrade sports facilities.
The Federal Government has announced grants up to $500,000 are available through the Community Sport Infrastructure grant program to upgrade sporting infrastructure. Applications must be lodged by September 14, 2018.
Mr Chester urged local sports clubs to consider projects that would help build participation in physical activity, community partnerships and inclusiveness.
“Having access to high quality sporting facilities encourages physical activity and healthy lifestyles, and also builds community spirit and pride,” Mr Chester said.
“I encourage local groups to work together and capitalise on this opportunity to upgrade sports facilities across Gippsland.
“Improving lighting, playing surfaces and accessibility for different ages and genders are just some of the ways sporting facilities can be made safer and more appealing.
“As well as boosting local participation rates, improved facilities can bring more regional and high level sporting competitions into Gippsland – which can have a big impact on boosting local business and supporting the economy.”
The Community Sport Infrastructure grant program will be managed by Sport Australia, the Australian Government’s leading agency for sport and physical activity.
Applications close September 14. More information on the Community Sport Infrastructure grant program can be found at https://www.sportaus.gov.au/grants_and_funding/community_sport_infrastructure_grant_program
