GIPPSLAND CLUBS ‘GREEN WITH ENVY’
August 7, 2008
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says Lindenow is the envy of bowls clubs throughout Gippsland following the official opening of the new synthetic green and redeveloped clubhouse facilities, including overhead lighting.
Mr Chester attended the official opening by Governor of Victoria Professor David de Kretser and inspected the $230,000 redevelopment with club members.
“It is a credit to the voluntary spirit in the bowls club and the broader Lindenow community that such an outstanding facility has been developed over several decades,” Mr Chester said.
The installation of the synthetic green involved a partnership between the bowls club, East Gippsland Shire and the State Government but it was interrupted by last year’s flood.
“The June floods destroyed the first synthetic green and it needed to be ripped up and replaced soon after it was installed,” Mr Chester said.
“Fortunately, the storm damage was covered by insurance and the club members can now enjoy an outstanding new surface. The synthetic green requires no water and less maintenance in comparison to turf facilities.
“It will also allow the club members to play throughout the year and under lights when the weather warms up.”
