The parliamentary secretary appointed to help Tony Abbott deliver his indigenous affairs agenda will visit Gippsland next week.

The Hon Alan Tudge, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, has been invited by The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester to meet with aboriginal associations across Gippsland.

Mr Tudge will be in Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance next Friday (June 6, 2014) and will meet with Lakes Entrance Aboriginal Health Association, Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust, Gippsland and East Gippsland Aboriginal Cooperative, Clontarf Academy and Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation. Mr Chester said the visit meant Gippsland’s specific issues would be considered front and centre as part of any reform agenda put forward by Mr Tudge.

The Coalition Government has previously declared a substantial indigenous agenda covering education, employment and constitutional recognition and mooted plans to review welfare dependence in remote communities with no economy.

Mr Chester said there were some enormous challenges within the indigenous sector and he was looking forward to learning how Gippsland could benefit from government changes.
