A group of Gippsland community leaders were in Canberra this week to lobby for key infrastructure projects.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack met with the One Gippsland delegation, which included representatives from the Committee for Gippsland and the Gippsland Local Government Network.

Mr Chester said a key topic of discussion was the key infrastructure priorities to support Gippsland‘s long-term growth and industry security.

“One Gippsland outlined its plan to grow regional rural industries and attract investment into the future,” Mr Chester said. “A key part of growing regional areas is connectivity.

“For Gippsland, that means completing the duplication of the Princes Highway between Traralgon and Sale, which has already secured $132 million in Federal Government funding. We just need the State Government to announce its $33 million share for this project to get underway.

“Boosting connectivity in our region also means faster and more reliable rail services on the Gippsland line. Work on those improvements is underway now, funded with $530 million from the Federal Government.

“One Gippsland is advocating strongly for our region and for that they should be congratulated.”
