Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has announced Yarram Yarram Landcare Network will receive $5,000 funding from the Federal Government’s Volunteer Grants Program.

Yarram Yarram Landcare Network is one of 72 groups in Gippsland to share almost $250,000 funding.

“This funding will help Iocal groups, such as Yarram Yarram Landcare Network, to continue the important work they do improving their community,” Mr Chester said.

“The Volunteer Grants program provides funding between $1000 and $5000 to help organisations buy equipment, train volunteers and can go towards fuel costs for volunteers.”

Mr Chester recently met with representatives of Yarram Yarram Landcare Network to learn more about their projects, achievements and future plans.

“Yarram Yarram Landcare Network has been established for more than 20 years and has strong volunteer support comprising its eight member Landcare groups,” Mr Chester said.

“The group has strong links with farmers and the wider community towards achieving sustainable land management and productivity, while also protecting our native plants and animals and enhancing the natural environment.

“I want to congratulate Yarram Yarram’s volunteers for what they have achieved and their dedication to improving the environment.”

The Federal Budget also included an additional $20 million for the National Landcare Program to meet its commitment to plant 20 million native trees by 2020. The additional funding will bring the total investment in the program to $70 million.  The 20 Million Trees program restores and rebuilds habitat for animals and plants across urban, peri-urban and regional Australia.
