Local MP Darren Chester is encouraging Gippslanders to have their say as part of the review of the National Landcare Program.

Mr Chester said this was the second five-year review to help inform the future of the program.

“Landcare provides on ground practical action to improve our soil, water and biodiversity and support our natural resources,” Mr Chester said.

“This review will help improve the effectiveness of the program and ensure farmers and land managers have the right skills and knowledge for sustainable agricultural practices.”

Mr Chester said that local Landcare groups worked tirelessly to protect and preserve local habitats and had been a large part of the bushfire recovery.

“Throughout Gippsland we are very fortunate to have many Landcare groups doing brilliant work, including the mammoth effort as part of the bushfire recovery,” Mr Chester said.

“Regular reviews of the program ensure that Landcare groups are able to continue to remove invasive weeds, tackle feral pest control, create refuges for native species and protect local waterways.

“I encourage interested Gippslanders to read through the terms of reference and submit their feedback.”

The public consultation process will close on October 15, 2021.
