Traralgon West Cricket Club will soon begin construction of a new storage shed to house its specialised maintenance and training equipment.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester today announced $10,000 in Federal Government funding had been allocated to the $21,000 project.
“Traralgon West Cricket Club has done an enormous amount of work towards creating a cricket precinct at the Jack Canavan Oval,” Mr Chester said.
“A new pitch is being installed and there’s now a need for a new storage shed for the equipment to maintain the pitch, as well as the training equipment for all senior and junior grades and the All Abilities Junior Cricket Program.”
Traralgon West Cricket Club President Sam Varsaci said the club was working hard to maintain participation levels.
“We want to create a welcoming atmosphere at the club and boost our player numbers,” Mr Varsaci said.
“Providing an opportunity to play with quality equipment on a quality surface is an important part of attracting new players and families.”
The cricket club will provide matching funding for the storage shed’s construction.
Mr Chester said Traralgon West Cricket Club was one of 19 organisations in Gippsland to receive funding support so far under the round three of the #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program.
“I’m pleased to play a role in helping so many community-based organisations to get their small capital projects off the ground,” Mr Chester said.
