The installation of a Telstra base station will improve mobile phone reception at Gipsy Point.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the installation of the base station was part of the Federal Government’s commitment to improve connectivity through its Regional Connectivity Program (RCP).
“This upgrade will provide improved mobile coverage and will increase the resilience and reliability of communications,” Mr Chester said.
“It will improve reliability and access to emergency communications in this bushfire prone region, support local tourism businesses and provide benefits for remote education and telehealth.
“Improved connectivity, whether it be mobile phone or internet coverage, is essential throughout our region for communication and economic growth.
“Phone coverage, especially in rural areas, is vital for day-to-day communication, during emergencies and when travelling.
“It is important we continue to identify black spots and improve connectivity throughout Gippsland for both locals and visitors.”
The new base station will provide access to Telstra 4G mobile coverage.
Gipsy Point is one of four Gippsland projects that will share in more than $90 million in funding under the Regional Connectivity Program (RCP).
