Federal MP Darren Chester says he’s keen to work with East Gippsland Shire Council and the community to develop more projects to improve facilities on public land, following the completion of the Metung boardwalk.
The $1.12 million project to extend the boardwalk was successfully managed by the council using local tradespeople, with funding provided by the Federal Government, East Gippsland Shire Council and VicRoads.
“Improving the liveability of Gippsland Lakes coastal towns like Metung, Lakes Entrance and Paynesville is good for residents and good for the tourism industry,” Mr Chester said.
“We need to be identifying more local infrastructure projects like this which enhance the visitor experience and encourage healthy, active lifestyles.”
