Tenders close this month for the construction of two key elements of the Rosedale Revitalisation project: a shared pathway between the town and Willow Park, and new amenities for travellers and campers.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the progress on the $1.5 million revitalisation project had reached an important stage.
“This is a chance for appropriate local businesses to put their hand up to do the work on these significant elements of this project,” Mr Chester said.
“Through its investment in community infrastructure, the Federal Government is generating work for those undertaking the construction.
“In the long term, the Rosedale Revitalisation project will support local businesses by giving passing travellers more reasons to stop and enjoy everything the town has to offer.”
Wellington Shire Council Mayor Carolyn Crossley said Willow Park RV stop was popular with visitors, but the existing infrastructure was in desperate need of upgrading.
“With a new toilet block and picnic shelter at Willow Park, we hope to entice additional caravaners to visit Rosedale,” Cr Crossley said. “We want to promote Rosedale and the Willow Park RV stop as an attractive place for visitors to stop off on their way to other destinations.”
Tenders to construct a shared pathway between the Rosedale township and Willow Park are now being considered. Tenders will also be called towards the end of May to build a toilet block and shelter at Willow Park. All tender information is available on the Wellington Shire Council website.
The new shared pathway will link Willow Park to the town centre, passing under the Princes Highway bridge to Mill Lane. Signage will be installed to help users to find their way.
At Willow Park, an open area will be created around the new picnic shelter with additional park furniture for people to enjoy the tranquil surrounds. Areas along the Latrobe River will be revegetated to improve biodiversity and reduce erosion.
The Rosedale Revitalisation Project is funded with $1 million from Federal Government and $500,000 from Wellington Shire Council. The project includes streetscape beautification works that are now more than 70% complete.
The Federal Government provided a further $1 million to upgrade the Princes Highway roundabout in Rosedale under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program. Work on this project is also underway.
